Rev. Aimee Semple McPherson

(1890 - 1944)

Aimee Semple McPherson was born in Canada, and became an early Pentecostal evangelist, rising to prominence in the USA in the 1920s.  Using new technology of the day, (an automobile and radio broadcasts), for evangelism, she captured the public’s imagination.  Aimee held tent meetings in which countless sinners came to Christ, and believers were filled with the Spirit and spoke in tongues.  Strong manifestations of the Holy Spirit accompanied her meetings including falling under the power, shaking, laughing in the Spirit, individuals (including children) having visions of Christ, and countless individuals being miraculously healed.  Eventually she settled in Los Angeles, pioneering her church which she named Angelus Temple, and also founding Life Bible College.  Sister Aimee was well known to the early Pentecostals, including Smith Wigglesworth, who preached at her church.  Rev. McPherson founded the Foursquare denomination, that carries on her work today.

Brother Mel gave the following message in tongues and interpreted it towards the end of Sister Elizabeth’s October 2010 Holy Spirit meeting.

At the beginning of Sister Elizabeth’s May 2010 Holy Spirit meeting, Brother Mel was led to give the following message in tongues and to interpret it.  In this recording you can hear the kind of reverential atmosphere in which the Holy Spirit manifests His gifts:

At the end of one of the services during the April 2010 annual convention of Helping Inspire Ministries (H.I.M.), Rev. Elizabeth Pruitt-Sloan gives the following message in tongues, while pausing to give the audience instructions, then Brother Mel interprets the message in tongues.  This is an example of a situation in which a message could be communicated in “another tongue,” but which takes considerably more words in the English language to communicate that same message:

We have focused so much on walking by faith, that we have lost sight of what the Bible says about hope.  In a recent faith battle, Brother Mel asked the Lord to show him more about faith.  God replied by showing Mel more and more about hope.  As he understood more about hope, his faith grew, and Mel’s faith in God brought him a needed breakthrough and victory.

In this recording, preached at Sister Elizabeth’s Holy Spirit meeting on September 11, 2010, Brother Mel shares with the congregation the truths the Lord has emphasized to him about the role that hope plays in believing God, and receiving by faith.

If you are believing God for a breakthrough, and you are having a tough time, these truths will show you how to stay strong in faith, until God responds with the answer to your prayer.

Brother Mel preached the this message at the opening service of the H.I.M. Annual Ministers Convention.  He began by describing to the assembled ministers aspects of the current Great Awakening that is in the earth, and comparing it with previous moves of God.  He told about two of the three recent angelic visitations he had experienced, and what he believed they meant.

Then he launched into a message in which he confronted, and comforted, the listeners by warning and exhorting them to learn from the moves of the past, and the mistakes thereof, so that they do not sit out the current move.  He spoke about two of the three biblical truths that had been emphasized to him by the Lord since the angelic visitations.

Brother Mel concluded by describing a vision the Lord gave him years ago of a powerful evil spirit that works against Christians, hindering them from receiving from God.  He concluded by sharing a testimony of personal revival and breakthrough, and invited ministers to come forward to seek the Lord, and to be prayed for to receive newness in God.  Many ministers came forward, and the recording includes the time of personal ministry, prayer, and the operation of spiritual gifts.

Mel reports that the Lord ministered deeply to fellow ministers, saying that as he preached, “I could see psychological, mental, and spiritual loads visibly lift off of various ministers, and their countenances brightened like the difference between night and day.”

In Sister Elizabeth’s March 2010 Holy Spirit Meeting, Elizabeth asked Mel to exhort everyone briefly after the praise and worship portion of the service, and to introduce the guest ministers for the service, the Rev. Lynda and Kent Devore.  God moved wonderfully during praise and worship, and Mel’s brief exhortation and “introduction” turned into a 22-minute mini-sermon.

One of the signs of an Awakening is the presence of supernatural signs from Heaven.  Mel shares e-mails from two seasoned ministers.  One describes a vision of angels in Heaven, and the other gives the account of Heaven visiting a pastor recently in LA.  Mel describes an angelic visitation of nearly 20 years ago, and then concludes by telling the experience with the angel that took place on September 14, 2009.
